Although similar to a traditional Indian drink, I came up with the recipe for Golden Milk Tea completely by happenstance. With a plethora of inflammation throughout my body from my stomach to my gums, I’m always on the hunt for anything that may help. After learning of Tumeric’s anti-inflammatory benefits I started to add it to absolutely everything I could. On a late-night when I was having trouble sleeping I was reminded of warm milk as a natural sleep aid. I got up, threw some almond milk into a pot, and added some spices to help me relax and calm my stomach which is how the Golden Milk Tea was created.
Of course, later on, I went to look up the recipe to see if it had already been created and it had! It’s very similar to a traditional Indian drink, Haldi Doodh (Tumeric Milk). My combo is a bit different and focused on optimizing gut health and keeping your immune system in peak condition. Although some variations of this drink include black pepper I found out after stomach surgery for my acid reflux that it slows down the digestion of food. This may be fine for some but can make it difficult for others, it’s all about knowing what is best for you and your health.
Ingredients:
12oz Almond Milk
1 Tbsp Tumeric powder
1 Tbsp Cinnamon powder
1/2 Tsp Ginger powder or 1 in fresh ginger cut into thin slices
1/2 Tsp Nutmeg powder
1/4 Tsp Cardamom powder
Directions:
This may be some of the easiest directions ever, add all ingredients to a pot, stir with a whisk, heat on medium for 5-minutes. Enjoy well hot!
Take time to explore the different health benefits of spices. You may find that adding another spice is beneficial.
